J.K. Rowling: Paikka vapaana



Täytyy sanoa, että piti aika pitkään harkita, ennen kuin tähän kirjaan uskalsin tarttua. Olen kuitenkin kasvanut Harry Potter- kirjasarjan kanssa. Pelotti, että mielikuva J.K. Rowlingista hyvänä kirjailijana katoaisi sen sileän tien, kun tämä kirja olisi luettu. Olin kuulluut niin paljon negaa tästä kirjasta. Täytyy taas kuitenkin sanoa, että kaikki pitää itse lukea tai kokea ennen kuin mielipiteen voi ilmaista. Vaikka Paikka Vapaana on kirjoitettu aikuisille, ja eroaa Pottereistä kuin aamu illasta, oli se silti mielestäni järisyttävän hyvä lukukokemus. Rowlingin vahvuus on vilkas mielikuvitus, ja hahmojen rakentaminen. Kirjassa oli mahtava tarina, ja aivat hykerryttävän mielenkiintoisia henkilöhahmoja.

Paikka Vapaana kertoo pikkukaupungista, jossa äkkiä vapautuu paikka valtuustossa, kun eräs valtuuston jäsen kuolee. Tapahtumat lähtevät liikkeelle tämän herran kuolemasta. Ehdokkaita paikalle riittää. Kaikki erilaisia, ja mielessään eri tavoitteet. Koko kaupunki menee sekaisin, kun kaupungin nettisivuille alkaa ilmestyä nimettömiä juttuja ehdokkaista. Jokaisella on omat salaisuutensa. Kuolleen valtuustolaisen tunsivat myös monet, ja kirjaa kirjoitetaankin monen eri henkilön näkökulmasta.

Kirjan yleissävy on paljon aikuisviihteellisempi ja synkempikin kuin Pottereissa (ja Pottereissakin oltiin jo synkän äärellä). Kirja sisältää kiroilua, seksiä ja väkivaltaa. Mistä monet ovat ilmeisesti ottaaneet nokkaansa. Minua kyseinen asia häiritsi vain aluksi, mutta mitä pidemmälle luin sitä enemmän imauduin tarinan mukaan, ja vaikka vannoutumaton fani olenkin niin tarinan imussa oisin kysyttäessä voinut tokaista vaikkapa "Harry Potter, who?" :D Jokainen kirja on kuitenkin aina oma tarinansa, ja jokainen tarina on omanlaisensa. Musta ja synkkä huumori iskee sitäpaitsi minuun todella hyvin. 

Tarinan loppu oli yllättävä, ja tunteita nostattava. Hyvän kirjan merkki on mielestäni se, kun se sekä naurattaa, että itkettää. Ja luoja tietää, että tämä kirja aiheutti molempia tunnetiloja ;) Teit sen taas J.K.Rowling! Hämmästytit ja ihatstutit minut tarinallasi! ;)

Roryn lukulista

Yksi pitkäaikaisimmista tv-sarja suosikeistani on ollut Gilmoren tytöt, ja esikuvani nuoruudessani kyseisen sarjan henkilö Rory. Niille, jotka eivät sarjasta ole kuulleet (onko sellaisia?) lienee pieni selostus paikallaan. Gilmoren tytöthän kertoo äidistä ja tyttärestä, jotka asuvat pikkukaupungissa conneticutin osavaltiossa; Star´s Hallows on kaupungin nimi. Heidän suhteensa on erilainen kuin normaalit äitien ja tytärten suhteet,sillä äiti Lorelai on saanut tyttärensä Roryn (lyhenne Lorelaista :D) vain 16-vuotiaana. Koko sarjan ajan heidän suhteensa peilautuu muun muassa Lorelain ei niin hyvään suhteeseen oman äitinsä kanssa. Ei sarjan juonenkäänteistä nyt sen enempää ;) Sanon vain että suosittelen katsomaan.

Joka tapauksessa Rory on todellinen lukutoukka. Läpi koko sarjan näemme kuinka Rory lukee kirjoja, juttelee kirjoista äitinsä ja muidenkin hahmojen kanssa. Hänellä on kirja mukanaan joka paikassa, ellei useampikin. Jopa koulun tansseihin hän on varustautunut kirjalla. Sarjan aikana mainitaan monia kirjoja, jotka voidaan olettaa Rory`n lukeneen. 

Olenkin törmännyt netissä sellaiseen ilmiöön kuin Roryn lukulista. Sitä on joissain englanninkielisissä blogeissa ja kirjasivustoissa alettu lukemaan. Vähän aikaa asiaa muhittuani päässäni, päätin että aion ottaa Rory`n lukulistan osaksi elämääni ja blogiani. Alan vähitellen käymään sitä läpi. Oman versioni listasta olen yhyttänyt tältä sivustolta.     Aion siis alkaa käymään tuota yllä olevaa listaa läpi. Olen lihavoinut listalta ne kirjat, jotka olen jo lukenut. En aio lukea kaikkia englanniksi, vaikka osa saattaa tulla englanniksi luettuakin. Kirjoista, jotka olen tummentanut olen tainnut melkein kaikki lukea suomennoksina. Eli luultavasti enimmäkseen tulen turvautumaan suomennoksiin. Kuten äsken sanoin saattaa olla, että osan luen englanniksi, jos se sattuu sopimaan paremmin ;) Saa nähdä miten pitkään tämän listan läpikäymisessä menee. :D Eiköhän se kuitenkin joskus loppuun saateta.
